CDBaby Review:

by G.J.Corrado

A flamenco “essential”

Rarely will musical virtuosity be at the service of a man’s profound sensitivity and creative genius. That is the unique and wonderful case of Richard Marlow, “Ricardo”. These compositions are uncompromisingly traditional Flamenco, almost scholarly essays illustrating the purity of this often adulterated style. Yet each one piece is melodically entertaining and freshly new, rhythmically seductive and above all opulently rich with the poignant passion of Flamenco. I am an amateur flamenco player, and have learned so much from this humble master’s art. Thank you Ricardo for the wonders you created in your “Madera Sonora”.

The Dance View Times:

"Look at How Gypsy I am!"

No performance of Flamenco would be complete without a mention of the musicians. And what musicians! The guitarist, Richard Marlow, an artist with what appears to be more than his fair share of modesty, is a joy, a pleasure, a sorrow to listen to. His every note is clear and concise, yet full of his soul. His solo was not just a filler between dances, it was a statement of artistry and he accompanied the dancers and the singer with the same concentration.

Short Takes: Flamenco

...accompanied by guitarists Richard Marlow and Pedro Cortes, who provided a riveting original score...

While the audience was wildly receptive from the start of Marlow's free-form guitar solo...

It was a kind of flamenco that was vividly muscular and somehow essentially American.
